Surgery of Peripheral Nerves and Tendons
Nerve/Tendon Holding Forceps by MEYER
In peripheral nerve repair a straight and ever cut surface
of the nerve ends greatly facilitates the assessment of
fascicular topography, and the attainment of good
fascicular co-aptation.
The nerve holding forceps are designed to make possible
the cutting of a clean nerve end. They are used together
with the ultra-thin knife blade, which exactly fits the
guide slot in the forceps.
The forceps are made in 6 sizes. The correct one must be
chosen to fit the nerve closely without pinching. The
blade is placed carefully in its guide slot to prevent
damage to its cutting edge. The cut is made with an
oscillating movement under slight pressure, with constant
irrigation, to give a straight, clean cut to the nerve
end.
Scanning electron microscopy of divided human nerves shows
a substantial reduction in anatomic disturbance when the
nerve is divided by this method, compared with division by
serrated scissors. |
